A woman was Christmas shopping with her two children.
After many hours of walking down row after row of toys and after hours of hearing both her children asking for everything they saw on those many shelves, she finally made it to the store elevator with her two children in hand.
She was feeling what so many of us feel during the holiday season time of the year, getting that perfect gift for every single person on our shopping list, overwhelming pressure to go to every party, every housewarming, taste all the holiday food and treats, making sure we don’t forget anyone on our card list, and the pressure of making sure we respond to everyone who sent us a card.
Finally the elevator doors opened revealing a crowd in the car.
She pushed her way in and dragged her two kids and all her bags of stuff in with her .
As the doors closed she couldn’t take it anymore and blurted out, “Whoever started this whole Christmas thing should be found, strung up, and shot.”
From the back of the car, a quiet calm voice responded,
“Don’t worry, we’ve already crucified Him.”

That was a good one, Sande.
Gloriously true. Thank you!!
Yes, and I wonder if we continue to do so when we get so crazy about these things. My husband refuses to celebrate Christmas. We do a tree, usually a couple of days before….that's all. I miss it, but I haven't really celebrated Christmas for many years as I was always away.
It is so important to remember the real meaning of Christmas. Thanks for the light hearted way of reminding us!
Have a nice evening!
Renata 🙂
My husband noted as I read this to him – "I think that was supposed to be poignant. It's kind of funny, actually." I like this story very much.
wow..what a stinger! a very powerful story and good reminder of what our "holiday cheer" is all about.
love the looks on your cutie's faces in that photo!
Ouch. We've tried to make our Christmases more focused on Christ. It's hard with little kids.
wow. what a closing line…but i wonder what he would think of all that it has become…
Wow…
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus the Name I know and love. The reason we are able to celebrate HIM for CHRISTmas.
Cute photo. Blessings and peace to you and your precious family.
So very true. Focusing on unwrapping HIM, rather than getting wrapped up in other things this year…
Thanks for the reminder
Ouch, that sure puts things in perspective.
Merry Christmas, sweet lady!
How very true…to both the woman's cry out and the return statement from the back of the elevator. How did Christmas turn out to be something that it really isn't? It really is about the birth of Jesus and not about the parties, gifts and cards. We should all stop to think of what is the gift that He would most want us to give instead of the perfect gift for everyone else. Great post…great picture!!
Oh, Sandra, the wounds we deliver–with words!!!
Doesn't this fascinating vignette capture it all.
God forgive us, for we know not what we do…

P.S. Love being bloggites!
Fantastic post, Sande…so powerful and poignant!! Really strikes me to the core. Thank you… Merry Christmas, my dear friend!!! You honor Him with every word you pen, and bless us all!!! May those blessings return to YOU this Christmas!!! Love you! Janine XO
Wow!!! That's all I can say…just wow.
A powerful reminder to keep our hearts right this busy Christmas season.
I'll remember this the next time I'm out Christmas shopping!
that was really funny. Unfortunately I'm probably that grumpy woman in the elevator more often than not. I'll try to remember to lighten up!
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at that one! I am so thankful for online shopping. It has changed Christmas for me so I can focus on Jesus again. Our decorations are half up. We have the nativity but haven't put up the tree yet and I'm thinking this is kind if nice this way!
In years past I've used the money I would have spent to buy a friend or family member (those who already have plenty and then some) a gift and instead donated it to a needy person. My actions were met with shock, dismay, and resentment. If I loved them why didn't I buy something for them, they wanted to know. This year I'll upset the status quo again, but I plan to respond with this: "I hope you'll do the same in my behalf." Amazing to me that to honor the true meaning of the season we have to think outside the box, outside what has evolved as the "norm."
Thank you for coming over and leaving a comment on my blog yesterday! WOW…this is quite a powerful post…I guess we just need to sit back and make sure we aren't bringing things into the season that stress us out and just glory in the meaning of Christmas. Such a good reminder..thanks for sharing.
Thanks for visiting me yesterday. I like your writing style, it is really fun and fresh. It is funny how often we get caught up thinking that what doesn't matter matters.
What a GREAT response from that person in the back of the elevator. We all need the occasional reminder to snap us back to the reality of the TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS!
Great post!
Hi there Sandra, seen you found my blog…how on earth do you still find the time to sit behind your computer and look all us up and even leave notes on blogs is beyond me? What a stunningly beautiful family do you have. You both look to me like balanced and proud parents. Thanks for sharing your stories.
Oh and love this one above. So true. We did that…(I'm so ashame).

Oh priceless! reminds me of a lady at my last school who was getting impatient that the Easter staff lunch was late in starting. I went to see what the hold up was and was told we were waiting for our Principal to say grace. "Oh for God's sake!!!!" exploded the cynical staff member. "Er, well yes…"I replied," That is kind of the point!"
The rest of the table cracked up and she got back into her box 😀
Wow!!
